unless the power goes off at a convenient time, the batts may run flat before you go to it. So have a torch in there as well. there are some with a flashing LED which lasts a very long time and helps you find them in the dark.

But when the power goes off you cant see it to turn it on!
I have a lamp with an 8 inch tube, battery and invertor. It connects to the mains via a lead to a 13 amp plug with 2 amp fuse fitted.
As long as it is plugged in and there is power a red LED glows.
If the power fails, the plug is pulled out or the socket is switched off then the LED goes out and the 8 inch tube lights up.
