Emulsion protector

We have recently redecorated our home and find that this is a regular occurrence in our hallway. It is constantly scuffed. My husband and I are sure when we used to have a bar that there was some type of 'top coat' which could be painted over the emulsion walls to make them more hard wearing. Anyone know what this product is?

I'd recommend Smith & Rodger aquacoat, designed as a clear water-based floor finish we have also used it with good results as an emulsion protector and even as a worktop finish (with enough coats).
