It wasn't a case of trusting the engineer, I wanted to learn more about the problem and also bide my time keeping the central heating running untill summertime, and have the repair done then. Also to save up the money

The engineer did not drain down any radiators
I have a bedroom with the radiator not in use - so do I need to drain all of the liquid from the rad or half way down.
also could this great idea of using a radiator be used permantly as a expansion vessel.
