Recently bought a 1930's bungalow and looking at the paintwork, it badly needs redoing, especially on the south facing side. Anyway i started on that wall by scraping as much loose paint as possible(lot of it comes off with a simple tap) but I wonder how far I should go with it as the mortar being lime based scrapes away quite easily plus quite a few of the bricks are spalling. So far i got about 10% of the bricks completely bare .Next thing I am wondering is which paint and stabiliser to use- Weathershield breathable paint or Sandtex? A good stabiliser and three coats of paint was recommended to me but am not sure which brand to use.
i live on the south coast 300 mtrs from the sea. Thanks
