That's odd your experience with the paint. Not meaning to teach granny to suck eggs but you did give it a really good stir?- the tins may have been sat on the shelf for a long time & paints do separate out especially traditional ones (the stuff with all the bad chemicals in that gives a really good finish). Or were you painting on a rare red hot day?

I just phoned PPG Architectural, who make Johnstone's Paints and spoke with technical. She said it's a runny paint designed to go on quickly, used by a professional painter. (Explains why many painters I have seen are covered in paint and have sheets down everywhere.)

She recommended the Johnstone's non-drip gloss & Johnstone's non-drip Professional undercoat. Next time that's what I will get.

Since tuesday, the time factor sequence of this thread is a bit puzzling - are you right now painting the woodwork or what?
When did the runny paint run?

AAMOI: i wouldn't replace any plastic unless its absolutely brittle and necessary.

Rubber seals can be replaced - keep the fitting and replace the seals.

Hi Ree

The original intention was to paint or overclad.
I was recommended Johnstones Storm Shield paint as the best.
I bought it and it was super runny.
The idea of applying it upside down with a loaded paint brush did not appeal.
The paint would have gone everywhere - I used it on the windows instead and a fair few drops ended up where they shouldn't have.
So .. when someone asked did I stir the paint .. I wandered .. because I had not used such runny paint before. So I checked with the manufacturer and it turns out pro painters use it just like that - runny. Because it allows them to get it on quickly.

My interest all along has really been the most cost effective way of sorting the problem permanently, and thus making it go away.

I will know when I get the right solution - I think it is over cladding.

Hi Ree

The runny paint ran at all times the paint was in use, as soon as the tin was opened. The tin was thoroughly stirred before use, especially because I had never seen a paint that thin before. So I stirred and stirred and it did'nt get much thicker. The paint fell of the brush continually at which ever angle it was used, and even when there was a small amount on the brush it always ends sliding up the back and going somewhere it shouldn't.

That's not the full quote, and it's for white, didn't you want black? Where are the prices for all the corners, joiners, J trim, soffit trim, nails, screws and guttering? What are the three prices for on the right? Chees

Thanks for the explanation. I still dont get it in terms of your posts but ... whatever.

AAMOI: you most probably have quite a bit of cutting out and replacement - eg. see the barge board tail - before you could overclad or even do a decent paint job.
Dont leave even a trace of fungal damage/rot in the fascia/woodwork or it will come back to bite you.

Whether its your most cost effective long term solution, i dont know.
Houses esp. houses in exposed seaside positions, are like living things - they are constantly moving and changing. No remedial repairs will be permanent - perhaps long term but not permanent.

Hi MW Roofline

I'm sure that the parts list I have spec'd is not full, as it would be, if done by a pro.
I did go up to eurocell and asked for some help with a white overcladding parts spec.
They said they were understaffed and I haven't got round to going back and trying again.
I have shown my roof line drawings to a few people and no one has got back.
So I've just got on with the list myself.
.. Yes I would need joiners. Not sure which ones.

Not sure why corners ; lengths of the L angle should do that?
If you have further ideas these are welcome.

Here is the spec I put together.

Thanks
