Fault on lights

Just moved into a new house, I need to have both my light switches on in my dining room for the light to work, what is the likely problem? and more importantly what is the solution? Ta.

The problem is that someone has wired up your two-way switching incorrectly.

The solution all rather depends on if you want two-way switching or not. One solution is to leave one switch 'on' and then just use the other one to switch on and off. If you want two-way switching, then you'll need to tell us what cables you have at each switch.

It might just be that a strapper has come loose.

What do you mean by a strapper? Please forgive my ignorance on this.

The strapper is the interconnecting cable between two switches. I have put one or two diagrams on the wiki at the top of the forum about 2 way lighting if this helps explain.
