Hi all,

If I want to fit an external fire valve to an old existing pipe run and use flared fittings. Will the flaring tool split the old pipe as it could be less flexible than when new.

Cheers dudes.

Assuming its copper tube then it might be a little harder as a result of vibration but I doubt it would cause any problem. You might consider heating it in a blowtorch to soften it.

If its soft steel then its unlikely to be any different and should flare OK.

It is copper, I did think of annealing it with a blowtorch, but I was not sure if I'd end up on the moon!

Would there be a fire risk?

If its 10, 8 or 6mm soft tube it should be fine to flare as long as its not overtightened against flaring block. If not sure how old be careful its not old 3/8" tube equivalent to 9mm.
