Another question SteveUK
Is the floor in need of maintenance product or is the floor just in need of a thorough clean?
Quality mops and cleaners leave no residue on the floor unlike some other cleaners http://www.ambiencehardwoodflooring...cleaner/bona-wood-floor-spray-mop/p_2672.html

You are correct that you need a separate cleaner and maintenance product, although the big advantage of a lacquer based maintenance product like Freshen-up is that I can come back at some point in the future and re-lacquer the floor. If you use a polish based product this option is not available in the future.

Secondly, I may be wrong, but I though most polish was applied with a buffer which would be more expensive than a pot of cleaner

These floor polishers are way too light to do a proper job.

An old fashion cast iron buffing block (7 kg) will do it better (is eco-friendly and gives you some exercise at the same time ;)) and way cheaper than the polisher you linked to

We ourselves use this one: 50 kg (10kg extra can be added and so is a vacuum cleaner):
