Want a new Garage door installed
but the gas meter is in the way of the door rails
What are the costs involved in having the meter moved down 2ft
Same 2 Feed pipes can be used needs lowering and re fixing to the wall

Who can do this work

Thanks in advance

You need to call your gas transporter, moving meters is out of scope for most domestic gas engineers. Be prepared for it to be very expensive

They might do it for free if you are having difficulty reading the meter because it's too high.

On the other hand, if it's lower down it might be more likely to get knocked, which would be a serious safety issue.

It has to move down 12" to allow the runners for the New Garage door to be fitted
The Main gas feed or the Feed to the house from the meter will remain in place

.....but will need shortening, as the incoming side won't have enough play in it to move it down that far. Shortening the incoming pipe is going to be a job for the gas transporter

Loads of gas companies are trying to get consumers to sign up for smart meters?

Are they smaller and would solve your problem? ( not seen one)
And it is free

An RGI with the right tickets could swing the meter as far as it can go to the left of where it is now, then re-pipe it. Would this work ?

Afraid not it has to be lowered
the Rails for the Garage door pass horizontally across the meter

if you mean that the pipes are fine where they are and that only the meter and the meter governor need to be lowered yes its no big deal , but as already advised meters in garages are usually ther to stop them getting hit by cars etc

Its just 12" lower still leaves the Meter at just above eye level so no issue with Cars and it getting knocked
hoping this can be done by RGI

yes it can be the valve with the red handle to the left of your pic with the yellow label an RGI can close that and work anywhere upstream of that depending on his competence, all you need is someone that knows what they are doing its not a big job Tony will be along in a minute to quote you for it

I thought that any pipe work before the meter outlet must be done by the GT. Regardless of MET1.

Hi Terry so how do you remove a meter when you are going to solder onto the outlet of the meter if you can not work on anything before the meter outlet ?
