I been out and brought the x400 and 100. The return filter? Would that be the one with the red shut off or the blue? providing its fitted the right way round

the return filter should be on right side and have a blue handle and have a big sliver cap, you need to take the cap off to find the filter, of course with no pressure in the system or you going to get a face full of water.
check and clean the filter and put back.
if you find it on the wrong side you need to put it on the return side(right side as you face the boiler).
