don't be put off by the negative knowalls , Hituf IS suitable for running surface 'clipped direct' as you intend, in fact it is suitable for ANY job SWA can do except buried direct in ground,
if people are going to make such sweeping statements they should back them up with a reg. number.
Hituf no cheaper than SWA but can be easier to gland off,

Agree that HiTuf is acceptable outdoors clipped direct, although having used it, totally disagree that it's easier to terminate then SWA - it really isn't!

I'd kind of agree with "not really suitable", as I see it there are a few issues with using it for this kind of thing.
1: IIRC it's a PITA to get hold of in appropriate sizes (unless the run is really short 2.5mm is likely to be pushing it on volt drop and getting hold of 4mm or 6mm seems to be a PITA)
2: If it does get damaged you don't have any earthed metal layer to protect you, this may or may not be an external influences issue depending on what is going on in the proximity of the wall.
3: if it's going to be concealed at less than 50mm depth anywhere along it's route it needs RCD protection at source. IMO the closer you can put RCD protection to the point of use the better.
