Hiya all,
First time on here so you will have to guide me through the site...
I have a HOTPOINT AQUARIUS FDW70 with error code A13...
Ihave found out that the fault is: - Open/Short circuit dispenser traic...
What on earth does that mean in english??
Now the question I need to ask is it something I can sort myself?
Is it just a fault that needs to be reset or a DIY job or hopefully not a engineer visit...
Help and advice would be greatly appreciated
Best Regards
Phil

No such error code on that model only goes up to 10. Are you sure it's the correct code , where did you get info for 13

I was given the dishwasher by a friend, and he has told me that is what is displayed.........
Item works normally for about 3 times then comes up with the error, he has been switching it off at the mains and it clears fault for another 3 times
Info about A13 i got off the following link..http://digicenter.net/t361627.html
Reads as follows:Hi M8 the codes above are NOT the ones listed from the Hotpoint website

Fault codes for Hotpoint LCD Dishwasher Models

A01 - Float switch operated - Book a service engineer.
A02 - Open/Short circuit heater relay - Book a service engineer.
A03 - Short circuit on thermistor - Book a service engineer.
A04 - Unable to reach or sense temperature within 70 minutes - Book service engineer.
A05 - Pressure switch has not been reset - Book a service engineer.
A07 - Open/Short circuit wash motor triac - Book a service engineer.
A08 - Open/Short circuit auxiliary wash motor triac - Book a service engineer.
A09 - Open/Short circuit with main wash traic - Book a service engineer.
A10 - Open/Short circuit fill valve traic - Book a service engineer.
A11 - Half load valve traic or alternating motor action - Book a service engineer.
A12 - Open circuit heater rely - Book a service engineer.
A13 - Open/Short circuit dispenser traic - Book a service engineer.
A14 - Drain hose too low causing syphoning. Check drain hose and re-adjust.
H20 - Check tap and pressure of incoming water.

So A10 is Open/Short circuit fill valve triac, this would tend to mean that their is a dead short on the circuit or the circuit is NOT complete in some way.
The fill circuit has several safety features built into it to stop flooding etc.....

The normal/Simple repair for this fault would be to change the Fill Valve as they can jam internally or the windings can overheat on the coil and breakdown.
But as you say you have changed this item this will no longer be at fault (Unless part was DOA)

Here is a simplified circuit to give you an idea of how the fill circuit works.

"DIAGRAM TAKEN FROM A WHIRLPOOL FILL CIRCUIT FOR DISPLAY ONLY"

"OWNERS MANUAL PDF" (http://imagebank.indesitcompany.co.uk/brochures_online/pdf/Hotpoint/Dishwashers/FDW70_FDW75_C00119026.pdf)

Instructions for reseting back to manual (NOT Tested found on Internet)

1. Switch dishwasher on pressing the standby button until the LED display
is on

2. cancel any program that has been selected by pressing start/reset
button

3. Press and hold simultaneously the standby start/reset buttons
"D OF" will appear momentarily in the display this will
then be replaced by four dashes ----

4. The dishwasher can then be programmed as normal.

Never come across that error code, but it means you need a pcb and it's got to be programmed. It's a chinese model so it's made china, pcb will cost you about 50 quid then it's smart card and reader needed as well
