Hotpoint LFT114 dishwasher not starting programme

had this unit for nearly 2 years now. cam to use it today and it wont start. all the lights are on as usual and if i tip a kettle worth of water and close the draw then the pump sucks it out. any ideas?
ive tried turning it off for a night at the socket but to no avail.
