hotpoint wd62 starts to turn but stops

HI can anyone help i have got a wd62 hotpoint washer dryer and am having some problems with it...when putting it on to a wash cycle it goes though as if it is doing it but the drum only turn for a second or two then stops it does this all the way throught and when it gets to spin cycle it drains but drum will spin for secocond or two and does the same in dryer mode starts to turn but then stops so it goes thru whole cycle thinking its turning but its not any help would be gratefull...as buying a new one wasnt on my list of xmas prezzies many thanks lee

First thing is check the carbon brushes in the motor, most likely very worn down.
