The Wilo pump seems sticky when the boiler is powered off on timer and put back on again. It starts up when helped with a screw driver in the rotor slot. Runs fine as long as the timer is on constant. Can it be freed off in any way or is there just a replacement head available for this? Or is it a complete pump? Thanks

Could be dirty system water in it.

You can get just the pump head, but make sure you give the supplier the boiler serial number as there are 2 different pumps on these.

isolate the boiler valves and drain the boiler via the PRV, strip the pump head out, remove the central bleed screw and gently tap the rotar shaft out of the housing, clean with a cloth and soap powder, refit and all should be well, the tolerance between the rotar and the housing is small and the black stuff that builds up there can cause it to stick, but if the system is dirty it will happen again so you could think about flushing out the system, a new pump head is probably a better long term fix but this method can get a sticky pump running again if a pump isn't available

Actually the PRV used in that boiler rarely fails to reseal.

Usually a sticky pump CAN be sorted out by running citric acid through the rotor can IF you have the requisite skills.

If this is like the biasi models there should be a drain down point on the right hand side when you take the side of the case off.

No need to be using the prv for draining down the boiler

You were correct about dirty water which I had flushed out some two months ago and added Sentinel. Everything seems clean now. Therefore I will strip pump head and give it a clean as suggested. And yes there is a drain on the side so won't have to go the PRV route as warned. Thank you very much all for the prompt and constructive replies.
