we are installing new rads (replacing a 20 year old) . Is it worth/possible installing a magna clean? Does a corgi registered boiler fitter need to do it?

We have a 23 year old Potterton profile boiler and when we had the system cleaned, power flushed and converted to sealed as well as having an unvented hot water cylinder last year, the company said we needn't bother with a magnetic filter until we had a new boiler fitted. Was that right?

It's worth installing a magna clean on any new boiler install with existing rads and pipes.

you say the rads are 20 years old. It's a simple DIY job to circulate a mild cleaner like X400 before you drain, and the cost is low. The Magnaclean will continue trapping the circulating particles that have been loosened (you can never get it all out).

A few days will help, but you can circulate it for several weeks, so the sooner you start, the better.
