Kitchen hob from bottle

Does anyone have any recommendations of type of fuel to go for?

Butane is not much use at low ambient temperatures, before +10C it becomes less willing for the liquid to turn to gas. Propane is a much better bet in this respect, but is slightly more expensive to use.

Im running Propane mainly because the hob manufacture recommended it (burns hotter?) but also because of the lower temperature before freezing (bottles are outside of boat in a hatch) and as a bonus it was cheaper to buy at the time.

That is wrong, butane burns hotter, which is why the regulator run at a lower presure. Per unit of volume butane releases more energy than propane when it burns, 126MJ/m3 versus 95.8MJ/

Where a specific regulator is used for the gas, a butane regulator is designed to produce a slightly lower pressure output than a butane one, specifically to compensate for this difference in heat output. 28mbar for butane, versus 37mbar for propane. However, some modern systems now use a single output compromise regulator pressure for both gases, called a bulk head regulator running at 30mbar. The appliances are designed to work acceptably with any of the three pressures.
