Life, should mean life, but to save money, the prison authorities should make that life, as short as they possibly can.

I can't understand why the word is used if it doesn't mean what is said.

It was the terminology that politicians used to hoodwink the public when capital punishment was abolished. Maybe the politicains, or some of them, even believed at the time that life would mean life: no one believes it now.

Yeah but he should be locked up for life and die behind bars.

If it's 8 years then call it 8 years and after that a free man to kill and rape.
The prospect of being "recalled" means jack sh@it to people like that.

There's enough scamming going on with out the judiciary being involved.

Don't worry you've only got 8 years to pay for.

What I find hard to believe is that when a judge sentences some hardened bawbag to 10 yrs. the guilty person automatically knows they've already got a third off, so is only going to spend just shy of 7 yrs inside. Why don't they make a 10 yr sentence just that? 10 yrs

Sentencing is always confusing. He was given a life sentence with minimum term 8 years. That just means it is a minimum 8 years before he can apply for parole. He'll apply but it won't be granted so it's academic really. But why not give him a tarif of 25 or 30 years, or whatever. At least that would stop the Daily Mail deliberately confusing its readers with its doublespeak.

Oh dear. A family forum too. You aren't impressing anyone. Just get that chip off your shoulder and move on.
