Just been out to do a quote to replace a Glow Worm 52B. It's on a Centrica/BG maintenance 3* and has a leaking pipe connection to the cast iron HE. BG have told the customer that parts are no longer available and a new boiler is required.

These people are pensioners, look like they struggle and have a stairlift. they have been paying BG £320pa for cover on drains heating etc for years.

They showed me that BG had changed one of the two port valves a couple of months ago in the airing cupboard. They had used an in-line junction box (too scared to look in the wiring centre, perhaps?) and the white wire was just folded back, sticking out, 2" long and uninsulated, amongst all the towels.

As most of know on this site, this means a 28mm head was used, and no doubt, the BG novice did not appreciate that the cable they left out in their blase manner will be at 240v all the time the valve is shut.

Nice work, just wanted to share it with you.

This is doubly bad, because it means they didn't follow the MIs, which clearly state that the white wire must be made safe (can't recall the exact wording ATM).
