hi helpers, ive just put some ceiling lights up without reading the instructions ! the lights keep tripping out when i read the instructions it read as follows " the torodial transformer used in this product may induce switch surges which can cause nuisance tripping of some circuit breakers if this happens seek advice from an electrican to change the C B on the household wiring to one suitable for inductive loads !
the MCB is 5 amp would upgrading it to 6 amp solve the problem ? easy to fit ? or shall i just return the lights to the shop !! as an adder ... im planing to put a immersion heater in . do i need a 20 amp MCB ? thanks

What type of Mcb do you have, does it have a switch on the front or has it got a button?

a 6A, type C circuit breaker should do it, without tripping when the light is first turned on. how many watts does the new light use??

thanks for the reply

the MCB has a switch "up " for on

maximum wattage is 12 x 10 watt bulbs

can you buy MCB from popular diy store or do i need to go to specalist elec firm ?

It depends on the make and model of the circuit breaker. If you can post this info we may be able to help more. You may be able to find one with google or try your local electrical wholesaler. I wouldn't bother DIY stores as they cost a fortune and are unlikely to have type C breakers.

Best find an electrical wholesalers & get a Crabtree type C rated at 6 amps, should cost around £7.00 + vat

Just watch out for the live busbar in the CU - make sure the CU is isolated for incoming mains before you go anywhere near the breakers!!

Some domestic crabtree boards dont offer a breaker in a 'c' type. Going back a few years mind...

You need, for a 3000 watt household immersion heater, a B16 MCB, feeding a 2.5.sq.mm cable, OR a 4.sq.mm cable for longer runs, (SEE the IEE ON-SITE GUIDE), feeding a 13amp DP Switched Fuse-connection Unit adjacent the immersion heater, inside the airing cupboard, and a length of Heat Resisting 1.5.sq.mm. Immersion Heater Flex to connect to the Heater.

The Earth Bonding must also be checked to see if it's OK ,(SEE the IEE ON-SITE GUIDE), and if it is not, depending on site conditions, you need to run a suitable earthing cable between the Main Earthing Terminal and all the metalwork in the Airing Cupboard, and use tenby clamps to bond to all the pipework.
