We need to get carpets for 2 rooms
I wanted some advice on where to buy from

We want: cheap as possible - but durable and easy to clean

I went to one of the well known names and have got a price of £90 for the cheapest carpet - that's about £50 for the carpet and £40 for the fitting

Great - except that doesn't include underlay
The underlay cost more per sq meter than the carpet
With kids in the house, I assume we need underlay...? (That sounds like a dumb question!)

Should I go for slight more expensive than the cheapest?

Should I go to a local place than go to a well known place?
Well known place: if something goes wrong, I have someone to shout out who 'should' care

Thanks

Your post is rather confusing, you say cheap but durable and easy to clean... then you ask about buying expensive

....that is precisely what you have already found.........

Yes underlay costs as much as the cheaper carpets, you will then also need gripper rods too and the fitting price will rise also....

May I suggest you decide on......

1/ Your budget
2/ Exactly what flooring you desire

Be aware cheaper ranges are not soft and fluffy, they are tough and hard (ish) wearing loop piled carpets

Then go into an independent retailer who WILL care, rather than a national chain who WILL NOT care. Tell them your desires and your budget and they will advise you.

Be realistic, you should be aware that all the retailers I know have had to cut margins down to the bone - the days of HUGE discounts are long gone unless you are buying seconds which is false economy

Good luck to you (and also the salesman in your chosen retailer who I suspect is in for a hard time)

Check eBay for realistic underlay prices and take a few eBay advert printouts in to the shop to get a decent level of discount.
