Neon on external electric shower switch always on

Hi,

I've just replaced the switch that supplies to our electric shower, but the neon light on the switch is always on, even when the switch is in the off position.

This is a double pole wall switch external to our bathroom and mounted into the wall.

Have I just put the supply and load the wrong way round in the switch? As you can imagine they're buried in the wall so hard to tell which is which.

Multi=meters are quite useful. Knowing how to use them makes them very useful.

If the cables are sheathed twin and earth and you have reversed your load and supply. It would be easy enough to swap the sets over.
But I would recommend as others have that you confirm by use of approved electrical testing equipment the source of each set of cables.
It would then rule out or confirm any fault with the isolator.
