hi just had a new shower 8.5 kw the one i have now is a7.5 kw i know i will have to up rate the switch to a 45 amp and the trip 40 amp but could it be possible to get away from uprating the wire it is 6mm at present the run from consumer unit to switch is about 20 foot and about 7 foot to shower cheers

to clarify, the MCB is fine at 40A. Your post isnt clear.
the cable is under floor boards to a cupboard then up a plastered wall in the attic to the switch then drops back down the wall and into the shower,is this clear.

no its just runs up the wall and along the joist and in to the switch
In that case you are probably Ok to run the 8.5KW shower on the existing circuit.
The installation instructions for the shower should state that the circuit must be protected by a 30mA RCD. Do you have one?

yes it is built in on the consumer unit, so i will change the ceiling switch to a 45 amp one. and the 32 amp mcb which is in the circuit now is ok or does this need to be uprated.
