Hi,

I recently removed a section of old plywood panelling in the hope of finding some nice spindles underneath..... I didn't!!

Given that I already have Newel posts, Baserail and handrail how difficult would it be for a competent novice to fit some spindles myself?

Do I need to dismantle the whole banister and rebuild with spindles?

Are there any sites that could advise/demonstrate??

Cheers

Should be quite simple since the newels, handrail etc are in place - does your base rail and underside of handrail have a recess or cut-out in which to fit the spindles? if so, check the width of this as this will determine your spindle size.

If there are no recess, you can buy a base plate ready made for this purpose. Then its a case of cutting the spindles to suit the angle (pitch) of the stair and nailing/glueing in place, you can also buy spacer timber which you cut and fit between the spindles into the recess to accurately space the spindles.

Have a look at http://www.richardburbidge.co.uk/rburbidge-165 They do a great range but are not the cheapest, IIRC Wickes are good on price.
