Painting old paster walls - re-skim or lining paper?

Hi all,

I am in the process of redecorating a bedroom and need some advice on how to paint on old paster walls. I have stripped out the old wallpaper and am now left with the bare plaster walls, see images below (likely from the 1930's when the house was built). The walls are in good condition but inevitably show some old repairs/patches and tiny cracks here and there. Hence my question of whether I should:
- re-skim the walls to have a smooth finish (probably the most expensive option). If so, any specific products advised?
- re-line the walls with lining paper before painting over.

Thanks in advance

Seb

Lining paper is simply painted wallpaper. Skim every time. You will add more value than it costs you.
