Hopefully all repaired (got the firm who fitted the boiler). Evidently the heating shield had cracked and dropped down on the pilot. In the first instance the gasfitter replaced the thermo coupling as part of the stepped approach to diagnosing the fault. I'm trying to look on this positively, I now have a replaced pump and thermo-coupling which should last a few years. The shield is to be replaced on the next service, which I've asked them to do in October, don't want any problems over the winter.
