potterton puma 80e problems

Don't forget the other 'well-known' scenario of a pump motor turning like a train but with the impeller fallen off the end of it. Result: it's not a pump any more! Some Pumas seem to be very 'slow on the uptake' when starting from cold. I've never had enough time to work out exactly what happens but the symptoms are overheating and lock-out although the pump is turning. Put your hand on the flow pipe while the boiler fires up and see how far down the heat gets before it locks out.

Its quite hard to check the integrity of the spindle/impeller on the CP type pumps as you cant get a look inside without taking the head off.

That's why I suggested that feeling the Flow pipe might give some clue without tearing it apart

thanks for the support.

anyway, i just pulled the spindle out and by using the finger tips of two fingers the spindle did rotate quite easily.
i also turned the ch on then off at the timer and the pump did continue do its job as you stated.
