Preparing skirting boards

I have fitted new skirting boards and now need to paint them. I have seen primers and undercoats for sale, but I read somewhere about treating the knots first. Is this with the primer or is there a special product?

Yes I know I ask silly questions but I'm no expert.

Get yourself a small bottle of knotting..brush on two thin coats...then onces its dry prime with either acrylic primer undercoat of oil based undercaot thinned with 15% white spirit.

Oh and youl need a drop of meths to clean your brush out with..or throw it away.

So i should-

Treat knots with the solution
Cover with wood primer

Should i then undercoat and then paint OR just paint it.
