occasionally the fan remains on continuously at slow speed. I have to break the connection to stop the fan running, when I remake the connection all seems ok. Heating and Hot water are fine otherwise. any comments ? could it be a hotwater/heat sensor or air pressure switch (although if I take the air pressure switch out the fan continues to run)

if your boiler is the permenent pilot light model the fan will run at low speed untill a demand is sensed

The fan has to run (at low speed) to ventilate the combustion chamber to maintain the air supply for the pilot burner and (more importantly) to cool the heat exchanger. With no cooling, the water sitting in the HX over the pilot will boil!
