was wondering if anyone had been able to fit non dealer pump to protherm 80e,looks like standard grundfos bodyfixed with 4 studs....any ideas would be gratefully accepted

Sometimes the apparently similar pumps have small differences and may not fit or have different characteristics.
You could put the two side by side and see if they look or measure the same. Pay particular attention to the rotor and the eye.
CORGI would say that you should only use manufacturer parts. Its difficult to think of any reason how a pump could result in any gas related issues though.
