Radio controlled cars

Any of you folks into RC cars? I really want to take it up with my kids.. One of them has a decent battery powered car, but id like to step it up to petrol/nitro/monster juice?

Can anyone talk me through the levels and the costs and benefits etc.

Ideally we’d like to just race each other in the locality, so parks and countryside... may look to joining a club in the future.
