Hi,

We have a Ravenheat CSI Primary AAA condensing boiler used for HEAT ONLY.

Intermittent but persistant problem that has started in the last 4/5 days. shortcycles on and off for up to 35 secs per cycle for 5 mins or so, then cuts off showing red light on boiler.

It's running 9 rads at a low temperature with rad stats and a room stat. all of which are functioning fine.

The intermittent element is that it will stay on for hours and heat perfectly when it decides to stay on! it has done so eventually last night despite resetting numerous times throughout the day and each time shutting off with the red light.
Turned it off with the room stat last night and boiler has red light this morning! however after a reset is working fine now so far!

It has no filling loop or pressure gauge as it is a system boiler heating rads only. The condensate pipe is indoors so won't have frozen in the cold snap. There doesn't appear to be a frost stat on the boiler either.

Any helpful suggestions welcome with regard to identifying the fault. Thanks!

Any suggestions welcome to identify the faulty part but not interested in negative replies about the boiler or in calling in a plumber as this is not helpful. Thanks!

Your not doing yourself any favours making comments like this.

from experience the first comments will be Ravenheat are rubbish etc so was trying to avoid comments like this......

your condensate wont be frozen if inside but very common to block where they meet the drain, check that this is not blocked

thanks for the reply.
that was on my list to double check today. but no, its clear where it enters the drain from the condensate tank
and leaves the drain pipe!

The red lockout light indicates either overheating or ign lockout, check to make sure that you do not have a blocked cold feed, plenty of advice already on here how to do that, check your pump is wired directly to the boiler and is working OK, check the by-pass, if everything there ok and it is ign Lockout you will need a gas engineer we cant advise on that on here

i think it is one of the sensors failing or maybe the fan board as its an intermitant fault, it been working fine for the last 6 hours. but probably will shortcycle when i switch it on tomorrow.
