Please can anyone recommend a decent wired intruder alarm system that could be fitted by a competent DIYer. There just seem to be so much choice out there.

The Texecom Veritas R8 is a good basic 8 zone panel , with a good installer guide, and is easy to program and use.You could also look at the Texecom bellboxes and the Prestige pirs, all cheap and easily available.
