Im not part p, I did an advanced modern apprenticeship in electrical and mechanical maintenance, and specialised afterwards in electrical. I gained HNC and HND in electrical maintenance, and NVQ levels 2 and 3 in performing electrical operations (or whatever it is called)

I have since then worked in industry in the electrical breakdown and maintenance side, becoming the departmental manager of factory services ( my department is responsible for the installation and maintenance of manufacturing services and production lines including high and low voltage systems etc etc)

I am classed as competent in industry. Would i be able to register with a recognised body to be classed as competent outside as well?? as i feel it an insult to be allowed to do live testing, working on 3 phase electrical systems, distribution boards, motors, PLC's, inverter drives, lighting and general circuitry, and yet i still have to pay somebody to come into my house and change a CU legally, or to pay LABC fees

They seem to let anybody join these days as long as they pay up lol

But seriously, i dont think you would have any trouble, may want you to do a small course to get more money out of you, so you need to way up if its worth it money wise?

It depends which competent person scheme you want to join as to what you need.
I know what you mean by being employed in industry and being shoved out by part p but what can you do?
It certainly isn't worth the trouble and expense for me to join Napit (the one which would be my choice) even though I do hold all the quals, insurances and test equipment they would require as I don't do enough domestic work to justify it.
The only other (legal) way is to notify each job via the LABC, some now offer a reduced rate for qualified sparks in our position.
