Hi guys

I need , we’ll really want to remove this timber from the loft… there’s only one so can’t see it’s doing much good however I am aware that it stops the roof truss from moving in the wind .

what would be the best way to remove this please whilst keeping the roof safe?

it’s only got a couple of nails holding it up and the cut out of it that goes around the joist? Or purlin not sure if the name is actually a little bit of triangle stuck on with a nail lol

sorry for the rubbish pics I’m

That’s the word I was thinking of thanks :) I think it is but wondered if there was a way remove it but tie it ie put some wood ties at the top
And bolt some timber cross the bottom?
I’m wanting to raise the floor
By 25cm so I can re insulate the floor and actually
Be able to board it and walk on it , it’s not going to be a conversion as
It’s too low however would like it useable for decent storage
Thanks

Leave it alone.
Its a supporting collar, and its being supported itself by two common rafters.
Its supporting the purlin - you can see where the purlin is wedged off it.
