You all may have heard of this but I will tell anyway.
Under trading standards rules white goods ie fridges freezers washing machines etc under normal usage are supposed to last for 6 years
whether or not you take out extra guarantee at point of sale.

I had a dishwasher for 3 years without extra insurance and got my money returned when it decided not to work and they couldn't replace it.
I printed out the info from trading standards and there was no argument.

Sorry, you're wrong.

No where does it say that they are made to last 6 years.

The SOGA states that they should last a reasonable time, this varies depending upon circumstances.

You legally have 6 years from DOP to claim, this isn't the same thing as it being designed to last 6 years though.
