Hello,

My 10 year old Sebo X4 made a few rattling noises and now makes a burning smell when turned on.
I took it apart and there was a part that had come off. I've tried to show where it came from in the photos. From googling it its a capcitor and they can be bought on ebay for about £10.

I wanted to ask if this coming off was likely to be the cause of the burning smell? Is replacing it likely to fix the problem or is it more likely theres something else wrong, from reading it's usually suggested the motor is the problem if theres a burning smell.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

That is an interference suppression capacitor. It won't be the source of the burning, or the cause of it.

Decent ones are about 50p each in small quantities, but replacing it won't fix the problem.

More likely is the belt slipping/jammed, or the motor itself failing.
