Shut Door of washing machine

I have a Zanussi 1050 washing machine whose door refused to open. After a washing the previous night, the morning after the door simply refused to open. I opened the top cover to see whether the door mechnism has a safety latch to release the door but from my observation I did not see one. Does anyone have any idea?
