Mother in law has an old Saunier Duval combi. Pilot light won't stay lit. When it's re lit and button released, pilot just gets smaller and goes out.

I know Corgi/Gas safe apply and I'm not after a do it yourself fix, just after pointer so she does'nt get ripped off.

Thanks

call BG for a fixed price repair or better still replace the boiler as they are cheap and nasty french crap.

Several possibilities including the switches behind the red/white buttons.

It's a white boxed front, but says 620F on inside.
Is the thermocouple a common fault, ie more common than the buttons failing?
Thanks for replies.

never had no bother with the switches

i stand educated ;)

yes Tony is correct on this the switches can be problematic but I wouldn't think this is the case with this one as that usually just stops the boiler working rather than the pilot dying

This is the only boiler model that I dont work on ( because they always leak water! )

Unfortunately, I seem to know the boilers quite well as a result of repairing some for friends or people I have somehow felt sorry for.

The thermocouple output goes through a normally made contact behind the red button and opening that releases the magnetovalve.

If that contact is oxidised then it will not allow the magnetovalve armature to hold in so the pilot will not stay on when the white is released.

Unusual for the Mouse to recommend BG for a job!

As its likely to be the TC or a simple switch contact to be cleaned it would be an expensive repair unless its done for £99 as we are told sometimes happens.

I recently went to an S-D that BG had made five visits to before they gave up and announced that they could not repair it.

If only I could get customers that considered 99 quid for a tc a good deal.
In south London you need to offer a new boiler for £99 to keep busy.

Still, I count myself lucky that I don't live in an "E" postcode.

I don't work on,but repaired them for friends and recently went to see a SD.

Someones pi55ed or totaly confused

Thanks for all the replies.
I've heard that these boilers have a "high temp cut out" on the thermocouple.
Is this right and if so, I take it a standard, universal thermo won't do.
This would explain the outrageous quotes she's received.

You may have heard that in the pub but you can hear a lot of rubbish in pubs!

As on all boilers you need the correct part but small boiler bits are not particularly expensive and a TC is usually about £8-£16.

Would that give rise to an outrageous quote figure?

Tony

Thanks for reply Tony, I meant if the TC was a specialist part for this model of boiler it would explain the quotes.

That could be a lot of money for a thermocouple.

Better than the one i did last week. Guys missus had turned the boiler stat down and he hadnt noticed. Couldnt work out why he had luke warm HW. £164 for me to turn up stat
