I have a Sime Superior 60 boiler which is having problems starting up.

The fan runs for a few seconds then stops, restarts, stops etc for around 5 minute before the pilot light ignites the main burners.

The problem has been occurring for a couple of weeks and is steadily getting worse, it now is taking 15 mins :(

I'm not going to tinker around with the boiler as I'm not a professional boiler dude however I don't want to get done over either by a professional boiler dude. I do plan on replacing the boiler hopefully this year but need to get some money together as it's not going to be cheap (boiler is 10 yrs old and the way it's rigged in is now against regs so it's not a straight swop)

I came across a post by someone with a sime superior 50 who had exactly the same fault and he cured it by changing 3 transistors and 3 capacitors (//www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46112) where abouts are these? as it is not part of the gas side of the boiler I would be safe to remove the circuit boards and replace wouldn't I as long as I switched off the boiler wouldn't I. It's getting cold now so need to really sort it out in the next week or so, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also what is the control knob on the bottom of the boiler for?

Sime superior ??????? I think ?? that this is a rebadged Potterton Profile

tbh the problem may lay inside the combustion chamber, as such we can not give advice. Sorry

well the dude who changed the transistors said the parts cost him £0.71 from maplins, so it's worth a try as his problem sounds exactly like mine. Just not sure what he is on about lol

Yes, but he had some electronics knowledge!

If you had then you would also be able to do that.

But here we usually only advise on replacing with proper new manufacturer's PCBs as supplied.

However, it might not be the pCB at fault and before coming to any conclusion about the cause some tests are needed on gas related parts first and here we don't advise DIYers on those aspects.

If you call a gas reg engineer tell him you have a Profile as they have a better reputation than Slime boilers.

I have a voltage meter at work, can you tell me some locations of where to test to identify the problem, if I can prove that the PCB is working as it should I'm going to leave it for the experts or just get a new boiler ( as it is old and inefficient) but if I can prove that there is a fault on the PCB I'm happy to have a look as I've removed PCB's from work before. The control knob at the bottom-why would I adjust it

I am afraid that the site rules here do not permit me to give any information at all relating to gas aspects.

Having a meter does not mean that anyone is experienced in its use!
