With regards to building regs, how far from a bedroom should they be fitted?

within 3 metres from all bedroom doors and within 7 metres of the kitchen and other ares where a fire may start such as integral garages. All smoke detectors should be interconnected so if one operates they all go off. They should have their own seperate supply from the consumer unit or supplied from a regularily used lighting circuit. I prefer the later as if the smole detectors trip then the lights don't work so you look for the fault.
