We do seem to breed some particularly dim crims, here in Bristol.

I had experience of this last Thursday, when visiting my local Aldi. On my way in, I could see 2 PCs and a Blunkett Bobby restraining and talking to a bloke. Over the other side of the car park were 2 police cars and a police transit van with an awning/tent attached to the side of it.

When I asked the checkout girl what was going on, she told me the security guard had caught a shoplifter stealing meat and handed him to the law. She commented that the shoplifter obviously wasn't very bright, as he had chosen a day when the police had a crime prevention/neighbourhood watch day in the car park.

The old saying 'as thick as thieves' certainly has some truth in Bristol.
