Hi Everyone,
Im not sure but is it ok (17th Regs) to fit a 13A power socket and coax cable outlet onto my chimney breast in case someone in the future wants to fit a TV above the fireplace (not an active fire - probably electric for decoration)?
Im refurbishing an old flat and I want to do all this work whilst the chimney breast is open
I was planning to embed the power cable and video in separate conduit to avoid any magnetic effects.
Comments please, thanks
Alex

Yes, perfectly OK provided that the cables are run in 'safe zones' and that the sockets circuit is RCD-protected. If there were (or might ever be) a 'real fire', there obviously would be some concerns about heat.

Kind Regards, John

I would supply the socket as a spur from a FCU or similar in the alcove or other suitable location. Then if a real fire was ever fitted the isolation and removal of the 13 amp socket above the fire would be a simple task. If it were wired direct on a ring final then removing it would require the ring final cable to be re-routed.

Thanks to all of you guys who answered.

The suggestion of running a spur is a good idea makes life easier down the line if it had to be removed.
Kind regards
Alex
