I'm planning to board out the inside of a fireplace in the bedroom and use it only for decoration. The fire surround is slightly narrower than the fireplace so I will have to make up a frame to support the side wall which will be mdf. Into this wall I was planning to put in a single gang switched socket and run the cable to join the exsiting ring circuit.

Is there any regulation against doing this??

(The socket is so the wife can have nice plug in sparkly lights, and when she changes her mind can be removed.)

providing the socket is accessible and the socket is fed directly from a socket outlet, that is part of the ring final circuit and not a spur from a spur.
Sounds fine.
Has this circuit got RCD protection as that will need to be added if not.

Thanks, yes the socket will be accessible and will be part of the ring circuit which also has RCD protection.
