See edit above.

By simple I mean 'is the room stat clicking on and off?' etc.

thanks

there is a fuse unit on the wall. If I switch it off, the timer unit for the water and CH stops ticking and the light on the timer unit goes out.

does this mean the fuse is ok?

where might any other separate fuse unit be located

Thermostat wheel in hall but turning it up has no effect

That fuse is ok then. That is the main power supply to the system.

Where is the pump? If next to or in the boiler then there will be no other fuse or switch to worry about checking.

Looks like you may have to call someone in after all.

pump in boiler and no other fuse.

what a lot i have learned today

thanlks for your help

Hi
the humming is definitely coming from the pump because when I alter the dial from 1-3 the noise changes.

Does this point more to an electrical problem than the need for anew pump?

any ideas please
