Sticking Pump

I have an old Vulcan (as some of you are already aware of) and I have been getting by with the pump working on and off. If it sticks, there is a fast/slow switch on it that when turned back and too usually got it turning again. Also , if I leave long gaps between turning on and off it worked every time but now it doesn't turn at all after trying everything. When I turned the switch between the 2 speeds (neutral) a little bit of smoke came out of the pump but it still tries to pump when turned on. Perhaps I should keep trying and hope it starts agin but interestingly, the upstairs radiators are heating up while it isn't pumping.

Change the pump.
Heat goes upstairs thru conduction.
