Pitch Tar leaking due to rise in temperature, does the fuse carrier feel hot? If so call the supplier

call them even if it is not hot (though this is less urgent). They will come and fit a new head free. It is a common problem

BTW, if I were you, I would also buy a metre or two of new 16mm Green and Yellow earth cable, and a 4-way or 8-way earth block, and connect all your existing earth cables to it, leaving the loose end of the new 16mm where they can easily connect it to the new service head. Screw the earth block to the board next to your consumer unit (fusebox) or the meter board. It has to have all the earth wires connected to it, you may or may not already have earth wires connected to your gas and water piupes, to the incoming electrical supply, and to the consumer unit. old earyh wires are usually undersized.

This is because at the moment it sounds like you have an old and unsatisfactory installation, and it is easier to get a a new earth cable connected without charge if it is done when the service head is changed. If you are unsure about this any qualified electrician will know how to do it. The parts will cost you less than £5 at any electrical or DIY shed.

If you post a few photos showing the incoming service, meter, consumer unit, and all the wires around and between them, we can explain more.

And if you post photos, please use a 3rd party image hosting site, not the forum one, 'cos that is pants.

But what if you don't want to view an image by having it superimposed over the post itself?

Can you load an image into a DIYnot album by the could-not-possibly-be-any-simpler method of just dragging it to the posting window?

What if you find an image on the internet that you want to show but are blocked by anti hot-linking - can you put it into a DIYnot album with a single context-sensitive right click?

And next time you're replying to a post, and you're looking back at previous posts in the Topic Review, click on a DIYnot album link there, and see what happens.

It's nothing but pants all the way.

But it's OK - we know you're a Mod so you have to defend it.
