Strange RCD behaviour

Tested an RCD today. It tested fine in terms of trip times, but would not reset each time.

I found out that I had to switch off all mcb's, not just on the RCD side, then wait a few seconds. After that, a click is heard, then it is possible to reset. If you don't power down, the RCD will not reset at all.

Rang the manufacturer, and discovered after a bit of trial & error that due to the number of flu's and PC's on the circuits, transients were high.

The tech guy at the manufacturers reckons transients can back-feed through the non rcd side of the board and affect the RCD.

After disconnection of these, the RCD reacted normally.
