Street Stop Tap

Please could someone help me? I need to turn the water off to the whole house using the stop tap in the street. I've attached pictures of what I think is the stop tap in the street.........

Is this the stop tap? If so then how do I turn it off?

Bit on the right of photo is the stop tap.
DONT undo the hex nut

Or if your brave, undo the hex but, water will stop going to the house, just let us know how high it shoots?

Close the white tap using light pressure and one hand on a key. If you force it too tightly they can snap and you will have a major problem... it happened to me once... the bloke from Severn Trent said it happened a lot.
