I have a wall socket that is fed from a single FT&E cable, so I presume it must be a spur or a radially fed socket. I need to fit a socket in the chimney breast 3 foot from this socket to supply a 2kw electric fire.

It is rumoured (down the pub) that if I fit a fused outlet (next to and supplied from) the spur socket I can fit it with a 13A fuse and then use this to supply my new socket to feed the fire.

Is this true?

If the existing spur is fed directly from a ring main, and not another spur, the 13A FCU will have to be before the existing spurred socket, not after. However, if the existing spur is fed from another spur, then you will have to trace it's origin all the way back to the ring main and add the FCU at that point.

There are plenty of posts about this if you poke around.
